Comments for: "Comments?"

This post is provided as a forum for comments for the Left2Right post:

Comments?

posted on 01/25/2006

Update: Sorry, I did not mean to post anonymously When I first began blogging on L2R I had comments enabled. This seemed to me the appropriate action to take in a blog which aimed at stimulating discussion among various viewpoints....

Please see disclaimers before posting comments.

It's becoming clear that comments will never be re-enabled at Left2Right. I think that's quite unfortunate (which I guess should be obvious given that I maintain this site). The Internet and the world is a rough and tumble place and it pains me that the Left2Right bloggers are too sensitive to withstand some mild abuse. It's not, however, surprising.

I don't mind maintaining this blog, but clearly it's less intimate and only a second best solution. Oh well.

What is surprising is that he states: "It even turned out that one kind soul opened a website of his own designed to allow those who wished to comment on my remarks. To the best of my knowledge nobody ever availed themselves of this opportunity—perhaps because few were aware of it." A quick check would have showed him that there have been hundreds of comments made at this site. In fact, David Velleman has even commented at this site here.

I will continue to maintain this site forever (or at least until blogger stops offering their services) so any comments made here will always be available in the future.

Oops. I realize that Gerald Dworkin was probably referring to geralddworkincomments.blogsplot.com which never did have any comments on posts by Gerald Dworkin and opposed to this comment blog which has been started for general Left2Right posts. So he's right, I'm wrong.
