what's a poor library to do?

Who knew a little paragraph buried in a bureaucratic document could kick up such a fuss? ...

I think Don Herzog is reading too much into the library display and gay pride thing. It's one thing for libraries to have information in books and other periodicals that are on the subject of homosexuality (and nobody's complaining about that). It's quite another to have prominent displays regarding Gay Pride. That seems to me a type of activism beyond the scope of what libraries, especially public libraries, are for. Libraries should get out of the display business.

The simple solution, if a bit passive-aggressive, would be to fully comply. Lock up the shakespeare, the plato, the dickinson, the whitman, richard wright, allen ginsberg, books about turing, and on and on. It would make the point.
